Pediatric Care
Since Dr. Battaglia's training is in gentle, non-twisting, low-force methods of chiropractic care, she is able to provide safe, effective care for newborns.
Many babies are under Dr. Battaglia’s care. She explains, “Even in ‘natural’ childbirth, the birthing process is quite traumatic for the infant as well as the mother. The obstetrician frequently uses excessive force tugging the child’s head. This often causes the delicate structures of the neck to be irritated. In fact, birth may be the first traumatic event to cause bones to shift out of alignment and irritate nerves.”
The nervous system controls every function of the body. Nerve irritation can result in excessive crying (colic), reflux, constipation, diarrhea, poor appetite and even some allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.
Dr. Battaglia educates parents on the necessity of infant chiropractic check-ups. “Pressure on an infant’s developing spine and nerves is often overlooked because symptoms may not surface immediately. Nerve injuries that occur during birth may cause a weakened immune system. However, resulting problems, such as recurrent ear infections, usually don’t appear until after the first year of life.”
A baby usually responds considerably faster to chiropractic adjustments compared to an adult. Since many adulthood back and nerve problems begin in infancy, it is wise to correct spinal problems early when they are relatively easy to correct. Typically, correction can be achieved with just a few adjustments.
